MAKE designed and delivered the RMG Pedestal — an industrial grade kiosk for Royal Mail Group, engineered for lean manufacture and assembly, depot environment durability, and disability access compliance, without sacrificing a distinctive and refined aesthetic.

Royal Mail Group required an industrial-grade kiosk to serve as a clearly identifiable shift sign-in and sign-out point across their operational estate.
The product needed to function reliably in demanding depot environments, remain straightforward to manufacture and assemble at scale, and meet ergonomic accessibility requirements including disability access compliance.
Visual distinctiveness — to support its role as a clear location point — was also a core brief requirement.

MAKE approached the Pedestal with lean manufacturing as a primary engineering constraint from the outset. Every aspect of the structural design was evaluated against assembly time, component count, and the skill level required for installation and maintenance in the field. The result is an all-metal design in which the structural geometry itself provides alignment and retention — minimising fixings and reducing the potential for incorrect assembly.
The decision to eliminate all horizontal surfaces was both practical and hygienic: in a depot environment, horizontal ledges accumulate debris and require regular cleaning. A geometry that sheds rather than collects was a simple design decision with meaningful operational impact across a large estate.
Cable management is treated as an integral part of the design rather than an afterthought — all internal wiring is fully concealed within the structure, routed and retained during assembly so the finished unit presents a clean appearance in operation with no additional on-site tidying required.
Despite the utilitarian constraints of the brief, MAKE developed a distinctive and refined aesthetic — with considered proportions, an accent colour bezel detail, and clean surface transitions that elevate the Pedestal above conventional depot infrastructure.
Disability access requirements were addressed through careful ergonomic positioning of interactive elements, validated through CGI prior to production.
