INTRO
PodLoc is a highly innovative approach to mobile computer security, tracking, and charging — combining automatic locking, PIN release, and modular array capability in a single, elegantly simple product.
PodLoc was conceived, owned and brought to market by our client, PodLoc Ltd (formerly Falcona Solutions). Make3D was engaged to design and develop the product from initial concept through to manufacture-ready CAD. All intellectual property rights in the PodLoc product remain the sole property of the client.

The client required a compact, intuitive security solution for mobile computers used in high-volume warehouse and logistics environments. Existing cradle systems were cumbersome, required deliberate user input, and were prone to loss.
The brief called for a product that could secure, charge, and track devices automatically, with zero friction for users and a modular architecture.

MAKE led the design and engineering of PodLoc from initial concept through to manufacturing, working under the direction of the client.
The central design challenge was developing a locking mechanism requiring no active user input: when empty, PodLoc remains open; when a device is inserted and the door closed, it locks automatically. Release requires only a PIN entered on the device itself — eliminating additional hardware or complex control infrastructure.
The modular architecture allows individual PodLoc units to be linked into wall-mounted arrays or configured as stand-alone charging points.
Device specific inserts enable rapid customisation across a range of mobile computer models without structural redesign.
The housing is extruded aluminium, providing structural rigidity and a premium finish while internal components are engineered for high cycle reliability.
